...... There is a local reputable shop that has a very sharp guy that knows these things (E350/450) inside and out. I talked to him, and he was saying something about tie rod ends in these years were notorious for going bad prematurely. So, I have an appointment to take it there and have him check it out this Friday. They cannot do full alignments, but can set the toe. ......
I would be concerned with a shop where the only expertise is with a "hammer" that all problems are going to become a "nail". IMO.
Seriously??? This is a very well known, highly respected mechanical shop in this town......not an alignment shop, but they can set the toe. They are going to make sure everything in the steering is in good shape before I make the 70 mile trip to the alignment shop. These guys know their stuff. Lonnie is a legend in this town with his fabrication skills and mechanical aptitude, not to mention plenty of success with his 8 second drag car that he built from the ground up himself. Your "hammer" and "nail" statement is absurd.
Let's see, you say you don't need an alignment shop to get it right. A mechanic whom is reputable in a small town can do it!
Wow, this is getting out of hand. Where did I say I don't need an alignment shop to get it right??? Again, the mechanic is going to check out all the steering parts BEFORE I drive it 70 miles to get it aligned. If they have to replace any thing that would disrupt the alignment like tie rod ends, they can set the toe before I take it to Reno so it tracks straight. Make sense? :h
