I have a 95 gulfstream sunstream gxl class a.today I was fiddling around with the different systems to make sure winter hasn't silently destroyed anything.well I started her up, checked some other systems, figured I'd drop the leveling jacks. I have a bigfoot Quadra eze II system. Not automatic leveing .anyway jacks all worked, so I turned the coach engine off, turned the ignition key to the run position, then held the brake and used the "aux start" key on my leveling control panel. It tried to turn over for about 2 seconds and quit. Got a check engine light on the dash and cannot start the coach back up. tried disconnect the battery,and retry. Nothing!it basically clicks and won't crank. did I really mess something up here or what? Looked behind the level control panel for a fuse. Can't find any, also checked my fuse box for any blown fuse, nothing.any ideas?

"Click won't crank" is a sign of dead/weak batteries or corroded connections at the battery.

I just cleaned and tightened all my connections a few weeks ago after having an issue with my generator and hot ground wire, would a dead battery throw a check engine light? just feels strange that it started up no issue 20 min prior, then the engine was running.its driving me crazy, it started down pouring shortly afterwards which makes trouble shooting pretty miserable.

Maybe not the battery, but a weak or bad alternator might trigger the check engine light. Turn on your head lights while you are trying to start the vehicle. If the headlights go dim while trying to start, then look at the battery.You mentioned you cleaned the battery terminals. How did you clean them? Baking soda? I hope not. Did you remove each terminal and clean the post and the clamp portion of the cable? You might want to re visit the cleaning issue. They might not be all that clean after all.

Would a dead battery throw a Check Engine light. You turned on the ignition, the computer gave you time to get it running and the computer is NOT at this time receiving pulses from the engine counter, Thus it thinks the engine is not running, (Which of course it is not) so something MUST be wrong with the engine. On an OBD 1 it would be sending, if I Recall correctly 8 8 8 as the trouble code (Means, Engine is not running.. Ok so they have a much fancier translation but it means.. Engine not running).Alas this is the kind of issue I am better at with hands, and a test light, ON scene.

Is it a Ford? Their remote starter relay/solenoid is notorious for going bad. It can click and still not pass sufficient current to start. Try jumping the 2 big terminals on it. If it cranks, you've found your problem.

I agree. Try jumping the starter.:)

Just wanted to thank you all again, turns out it was the wire connection at the starter, had come slightly undone.
all is well again.
remind me if we meet on the road, I'll owe ya a cold one or two.

I would crawl under the rig, take a hammer and give the starter motor a couple good raps. Not hard enough to crack/break the motor housing but a couple good raps. Sometimes will free up a stuck brush.

Well, attempted to bypass the solenoid, and I've got nothing.
will not turn over.
I've got 12.40 volts on the hot side of the solenoid,
ran my jumper cables from each lead on the solenoid. Wouldn't turn.
than reached my arm in there and connected both leads with a screw driver, no spark. No noise, won't turn.
I'm assuming this means either a bad ground some where or my starter is done.
I can rotate the drive belt manually so I know it isn't a frozen engine..
any ideas how to diagnose from here folks?

Actually, if you suspect a solenoid, all you need to do is identify wires on one side's large lug (tape works well), remove and ADD to the wires on the other side's lug.

All you have done is effectively bypassed the solenoid.

When you stop, be sure to remove the "labeled" wires and return them to their original position.
