As stated in my post 7/8/14, I delayed the Pocket Door Job until my refrig was replaced... Then I tried the "unusual" repair process posted by mtrumpet. IT WORKED! The darn thing works like new.
This was my procedure:
After I removed the door (difficult but manageable), I used a 1 1/4" x 3/8" strip from the local Lowes. I first checked to make sure the top rail went all the way to the back wall (time consuming but important)and it did. Then I measured and re-measured the distance from floor to rail (compensated for the hall tile) and using a long 2x2 from my wood pile, I pushed the strip into the pocket several times to make sure it was a precise fit. I used a strong string taped to the top half of the strip to pull it back out after each try. When the fit was right, I put glue on the back side of the strip and again pushed it into place. I used a 2x4 and the 2x2 to apply pressure on the glued strip for 24 hours. When I removed the bracing, and reinstalled the door on the railing, it works like a charm.
Thanks mtrumpet for the advice.
