Portable space heater

I currently don't have one. The last one I had I bought at Costco.

Do it. Just do it, safely. Get them with tip over switch.

For the most part all 1500W heaters are the same as far as heat output. After that it's just a personal preference for noise, size, etc.

I agree with the others about the oil filled radiant units. They are silent and IMO much safer than the small glowing ones. Of course, they are kind of big and bulky.

I've used a couple in various TTs and 5th wheels over the years and one at each end of a trailer is adequate down to 40 or so.

I would recommend getting the Lasko 5624. It is a smaller and not as powerful as others like the Lasko 751320, but, it is really quiet and it lays horizontal so you can put it in more out of the way places. Here is a site that compares these heaters and more.

We tried the small cube ceramic heater for a season but didn't like the noise
of the fan blowing through the night , so switched to the oil filed type.

brao.....You don't say what coach you have or if it's a 30 or 50 amp system. Most any heater will work well. I went to WalMart and looked at several they had on display. There was an outlet near by so I plugged each one in and found the quietest.

For those with large whole coach inverters, you should know which outlets are connected to your inverter and which ones are not. This is easily done by disconnecting from shore power, turning on your inverter and checking each outlet for power. Mark those that are not on the inverter system (have no power) with a dot from a Sharpie. The reason for doing this is to prevent wear and tear on your inverter. Even though your inverter may be off, all power into the coach runs through the inverter (bypass system) and then to the outlets you didn't mark. Running a high amp item like an electric space heater through them for long periods of time is not good.

Try to use the plugs you marked with a dot for your heaters if possible. These draw power straight from shore power through your circuit breakers.

If you use space heaters a lot and you have a 30 amp system or camp with only 30 amp shore power, here is a good project. I ran Romex through flexible plastic electrical conduit (available at HD and Lowes) from a box in my power bay, under the coach, and along the frame to a separate outlet I added in the living area and the bathroom. At the box in the power bay, I connected a heavy duty section of power cord (about 20') and a heavy duty 3 prong plug.

When we are going to be running the heater for a long period, we connect this cord to the 20 amp plug in the shore power box and use it for the heater only. We use the non-inverted outlet in our bedroom for a second heater that is running through our main power cord.

This cord addition also helps when you only have 30 amp service. By plugging in the added cord, you can run the heater without using up any of your 30 amps from your main power cord. I also have my wife use the extra outlet in the bathroom for her hair dryer when the heater is not on.

I use up to four portable space heaters in this RV but I have a warning.

In some cases, when a heater was plugged into one of the OEM outlets, I noticed the aroma of hot wires. Now this is not something I care to smell, for one thing, I know that if the wire gets hot enough. Bad things happen. (I finally replaced the outlet, wires did nto look that bad but there was clearly heat damage)

To resolve that I installed two 15/20 amp outlets, These are standard household outlets with the "T" shaped neutral slot, They are connected, each to a circuit breaker that feeds only that outlet using 12 gauge wire which on the outlet end is bent around a screw and properly tightened.

The 3rd heater runs on the Washer/Dryer outlet in the Washer/Dryer (optional not selected) cabinet, #4 does not often see the light of day. but if it does I keep it on LOW.

I know a guy who has not refilled his lpg tank for several years, using space heaters. Certainly something you can do. Just depands how warm you want to be.

IF you have a 30A trailer, watch the AMPs on the heater(s). It won't take long to trip a circuit breaker as most of the outlets are on one circuit.

IF you have a 50A MH, watch the AMPs on the heater(s). Most likely your outlets are powered THROUGH your converter/interver and is usually less than the 50A (e.g. 30A or 45A, depending on the size of the converter). You might be able to find an outlet not running "though" the converter. Disconnect the shore cord, Genny Off, Inverter ON. Use a 110v item to identify which outlets run "through" the inverter even when the inverter is OFF.

Anybody try the Dyson? Expensive but I sure like the vacuum cleaners even though expensive.
