Pricing for Turbo

Not a turbo, but a dusted CAT 3126b that needs to be replaced. The CAT shop wants $34k for a reman engine and two local shops want between $20k-$22k for a reman. So, i'd look for a good repair shop.

I don't know anything about this motor.
On my old 18 wheeler, the internal fins shattered into little bits.
Fin parts were found in the aftercooler and had to be cleaned out.
A few fin parts could have been blown towards the air cleaner.
If not cleaned out, could ruin your new turbo.
These are my 18 wheeler experience.
As said, I don't know anything about your motor.
You need a repair person that knows this motor and about blown up turbos/cleanup.

I have found a Turbo from Cummins Part #4309191 from my,
2009 Sport coach elite Engine # 73068991
Cummins 8.3 isc. I got a quiot for $3900 total shipping and core charge. Any help on other opions would be great

If you have the variable vane turbo that also acts as an engine brake that may be an added complexity. I believe these turbos run closer to 2K without labor.

Naturally you must figure labor but most could be changed out in a day/weekend by the average DIY.

I can't imagine a turbo for that engine costing anywhere near $5000. I would think $1000 would be a high price for the turbo. It's not a complicated part with electronics in it and there are millions of them around.

I would check for a used or rebuilt one.

Also, the turbo isn't buried beneath a bunch of junk on a 6 cyl Cummins. It shouldn't cost boo coo bucks to replace it.

I think you should get with another shop. That shop sounds like they're taking you for a ride on a money slide.

The parts counter at any authorized Cummins repair center should be able to get a turbo for you and confirm pricing. I googled "truck salvage parts" and found many resources for used parts. If you do not know how to google, PM me and I will help you.

That seems completely out of line. I see complete out of frame overhauls being done for less than $10,000. Cummins can provide the part cost with your engine serial number and you should be better informed when you decide what you are going to do. They should be able to provide a pretty close (or actual) price for a turbo replacement including labor. Nearly every shop works on a flat rate schedule anyhow.
