You would have been well advised to call PD directly and discuss your problem. They have a good technical staff and can solve a lot over the phone.
If the converter you have coming is not a 3or4 stage "intelligent" box, you will be disappointed. The two that I know are good are Iota and Progressive Dynamics. There could be others by now, but this is what I used to do on other peoples yachts before the depression.
