Is there a specific location where a full width mudflap should be installed on a Freightliner XC rear radiator chassis? I have heard that if not placed correctly, hot air can be re-ingested into the radiator.Thanks,Jack Buening

It can also throw rocks onto your towed vehicle. We only had flaps behind each tire, not the whole rear one.On our Alaska trip we saw folks taking the big flap off. We drove the same road they did earlier in the day. They came in and showed us the layer of 1/2" rocks laying at the base of their windshield.On our whole trip we had absolutely no damage.

I even went so far as buying a new purty one then never mounted it. Saw the same thing on our trip to Alaska. Just a good pair behind the drivers and if wanted a small pair for the steers, but I did hear some complain the steer one picked up dirty water in the rain or on wet pavement but I did't notice any.LEN

I'm getting that too - in fact it trashes the toad. How in the world does the flap do that? Is it just air current or does it flip it up off the street?

We have read repeatedly that the correct placement is 6" off the ground, in order to avoid the above problems. Who knows though. Could be just an old wives tale from the road.

I found out the same about taking it off here in Alaska. Before the first gravel roads with it the windshield got broke and bunch of rocks laying at the base of the windshield. Removed it and no more rocks. The whole toad stays cleaner without it.good luckpointrow

I'm getting better MPG due to less wind resistance, less toad damage and weight, without my last two. Anyone like a freeby?

I just took mine off and threw in the garage this morning. We are on the road next two weeks. Will see what happens. Mine was actually lowered 7 inches to fit the H-frame for the lift in the back. No wonder it drug around all the time.

Of course rain today, so can't tell if it did any good or not.

I was told that it had to be directly under the radiator to not disturb the airflow to radiator. I dont know the validity of that but it came from someone that had to move theirs after installing and having an overheat problem.
