Purging propane tank

Hello:

I have a Roadtrek 170, and I need to have the propane tank purged and certified that it's purged because I am going to ship it via Matson, and the company requires that. I have been calling all over TX, NM, AZ and apparently no one can do this...which seems crazy to me. :( Anyhow, just to be clear, the tank is fine, it doesn't need to be re-certified, just certified purged, so I am looking for someone who can do that.

Anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks.

Mike
  • Google propane deliveries and the majors like Suburban or American Gas should pop up.
  • Run it dry then pull the valve out then ship it like that. Leave valve out to ship and fill with water and empty before shipping.

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately they need it "certified" purged, so just empty isn't good enough. It's a built in tank, so just leaving it isn't an option, or I most assuredly would do so! I've tried RV places (Camping World etc), propane places (Amerigas, Titan)...getting frustrating.

And I wasn't sure about posting in the different groups; since the different sizes have propane tanks I just wanted to cover it off?! Apologies if I've contradicted any rules by doing so.

Good news, I found a company near Long Beach that does the propane tank purge/certification. For the next person who runs into this conundrum and googles a solution, Mutual Propane in Gardena, CA; they've been great to discuss this with and said it wil be no problem. I'm crossing my fingers...I'll update the thread when this actually comes to pass (in 3 weeks).

Thanks again to everyone for the suggestions; this is exactly what these boards should be about!

So Mutual Propane took care of it the purging problem...they were very helpful. Truth told, it was ridiculously simple; I had already run the propane tank almost dry, so they just opened the relief valve and drained the rest. Matson didn't particularly care either, but they DID want to see the certificate of purging; once I handed them that, it was all good. Again, thanks for the suggestions from everyone...much appreciated.
