Putting on wallpaper using glue

Hello. I had to strip the wallpaper from the bedroom due to water damage. I sanded and primed the walls. I have wallpaper which I tried to use with wetting the back of the paper with water. The wallpaper would not stick and the salesperson says I have to use glue on the back of the paper. Very tight space working with glue in the back bedroom. I tried to prepare the wood and paint the walls but i would much rather wallpaper if there was an easy way to use glue in such a small area. Any suggestions. Thank you in advance for responding.

  • Did you use an oil-based primer? Take a look at the following instructions or other websites: http://www.wallpaperonwalls.com/public/How-To-Hang-Wallpaper-Easy-Starts-With-A-Good-Foundation.cfm
I guess I would use the dining table to add the paste or other flat surface away from the tight space. Fold the paper and let the paste soak into the paper for a few minutes before trying to hang it.
  • I used border paste to hang paper. It stuck well. Border is usually put over the wallpaper and the paste is different than regular wallpaper paste.
  • Buy vinyl paste at the wallpaper store. Then spread it on over the existing prepaste.
I learned a little from my dad, who made a living hanging wallpaper.

  • I bought the thick wallpaper that was prepasted but it did not stick to the wall. That is why I have to use glue but it will be hard in such small places.
  • MOST paper comes prepasted BUT some does not which did you buy?
