Question on fuel consumed by our generator AND ??

It may be different on each coach but on my coach when I am plugged in to shore power and start the generator, the generator takes preference. In other words, I am not using power from both sources but ONLY the generator until I shut down the generator and then the shore power takes over again. I do not have to disconnect the power cord because the transfer switch takes care of switching power as needed.
