It has been my experience with repairmen of all sorts that I can do it cheaper and better and sometimes even faster, often with the learning curve considered.
Don't be afraid to do for yourself what you could handle if you knew where to buy the parts and make the repairs. That is what forums like this are for.
Ebay is a great source for all kinds of generic parts and often for specific parts as long as you have the dimensions and/or part numbers. As recently as a month ago, I have repaired our main house furnace and oven with parts purchased from ebay. $20 for an OEM hot surface igniter stove part that a repairman would charge $70, plus $100 or more to come over and install it. I don't blame them as they need to make a living too.
