I am a first time user of a class a motorhome. I need help with a couple things in regards to my gray/black and fresh water tank. First, I have a quick fill valve where I hook my water hose up to fill my fresh water. I am not sure what to do with this. I have just left the handle where it is and it slowly puts water into my holding tank. When I turn it the other direction I can actually hear water going into a tank. Can someone explain this to me please? Also, how do you know when the tank is full? How do you empty it if you don't want to have water in it when you are moving?

We really need to know what type of coach you have. They are all different.

Oh sorry. It is a class a 1997 Rexhall Aerbus. The previous owner has added a lot of updates to it. I have the owners manual but it doesn't give specifics.

Yes, you should complete your profile with the make, model, engine, etc of your MH as they're all different, but maybe this will help.You'll probably have two places to use the hose. One will be a screw on hose connector that will have a valve which will divert the water into either the MH water system while not putting any water into the tank, or the valve will divert it into the tank. The other place you can put the hose is a place where you just stick the hose into a hole behind a little flapper door that usuaully has a lock on it. The hole will just fill your water tank.Go inside the MH, make sure the water pump is turned off and open a faucet to remove any water pressure in the system. Then with the hose hooked up to the threaded connection, go inside, make sure the water pump is turned off, and open a sink faucet to see if you have good water pressure. If you do, you're using city water and not filling the tank. If you have no water pressure, then the hose is probably filling the water tank. Watch your fresh water tank gauge. While MH gauges are not accurate, after 10 - 15 minutes, if the water is going into the tank the gauge will show some an increase. If you're in a quiet area you should also hear water going into the tank. You can turn on the water pump and you should get water after the pump builds up pressure. You may get a lot of air or bubbles until they get out of the system.As for your fresh water drain, the mfgs hide then in all sorts of places. You should sanitize your fresh water tank once a year. Put either sanitize or bleach in the search block for directions. Don't worry about traveling with the tank full of water. The DP won't notice the weight and you never know when you'll need the water while traveling - think of flushing the toilet......Bill

Since I usually fill my coach alone, I just watch the manual fill location behind the small upper door. When it starts running out there, the tank is full. Some tanks do have an overflow pipe(NOT your tank drain) that will allow a certain amount of water to run out AFTER you stop filling the water tank. Since I have the upper manual fill, which also acts as a vent for the tank, I just plugged my over flow valve. This has caused no problems after more than four years of travel with the overflow plugged. I would only do this if you have the manual fill location above the tank, behind the small exterior door.

I am only finding one place to attach the hose to and it is at this quick fill control. I am not finding any other place to put a hose in or attach a hose. When the hose is turned on I have water pressure. But when I turn it off I have to turn the pump on. My MH gauge is showing low for fresh water tank. How do I know when it is full? Also, my gauge is showing 3/4 full on my gray/black tanks. I have only maybe flushed the toilet 6-10 times. How accurate are the MH gauges?Can anyone tell me how to attach a picture to my post?Also, I was worried about having the tank full because I pull a 16' steel stock trailer with a horse and tack in it. Should I be worried?

It sounds like you fill valve is leaking, in the bypass side.
In one position it sends water directly to you plumbing and does not fill your tank. The other position send it to you tank.
You should have a monitor that tells you when your tank is full, in the coach. They need to put one in the wet bay so you can tell without having to go into the coach.
If you let it fill to the point it flows out the gravity water fill port, it is too full and will slop out going down the road. If it get that full just run some into the gray tank, at the sink.
Your gray/black tank switch, if you have a flushing or rinsing system, sends water to either you gray or your black tank.
Fill your gray tank then fill your black tank. after connecting the sewer hose pull the black tank handle with the fresh water still entering the tank.
After it is empty continue to let it run for about five minutes. close the drain valve and let a few gallons go into the black tank.
Pull the gray tank valve and switch the fresh water flow into the gray tank. After emptying let it run for about five minutes. Close the valve and let a couple gallons go into the gray tank. Turn water off and disconnect.
Sorry if this doesn't fit but from you description this should cover it.

Thank you thank you everyone! I figured it out! Yes I have a sani flush system. The quick fill valve if turned one way is for city hook up and the other way is to fill my fresh wayer tank. My control panel seems pretty accurate for the amount of water that is in the fresh water tank.

yes as the tank is translucent.
no the pump is not necessary while filling, or when hooked up to city water.

Just that valve. I have tried everything to post pictures. I know if you guys could see the pictures you would know exactly what to tell me. I believe you are correct. I think there is a tank flushing setup. I think when I turn that valve the other way I hear it going into the black water tank. The fresh water tank is under the bed in the back of the MH. Should I be able to see the water level going up when I am filling? Should I have to turn the pump on when I am filling?

In my Winnebago (Water Department Storage Compartment), I have a water selector switch! City water goes directly to all my coach inside faucets. Water tank fill goes to my water tank reservoir that fills my fresh water tank. I have the choice of watching the water filling into my tank by opening a storage cabinet door. Are I can rely on my inside tank water fill gauges. Hope this helps you!

That is my thought too. Exactly like my setup with the Foretravel. My valve when on just fills the tank.
