I think solar is a good idea, but one thing you can do first, assuming you have a single 12V battery as your house battery, is to replace that battery with two 6V deep cycle golf cart batteries, hooked together in series. You can find these batteries at Costco for about $90 each. These batteries will give you much more battery life than a single 12V battery. You may have to enlarge your battery compartment to be able to handle the two batteries. And I would also replace as many incandescent, florescent, tungsten bulbs as you can with LED bulbs. They use about one tenth the power as an incandescent bulb. You will get much more battery life with the LED bulbs. Hope this helps.
