I will preface this by saying I'm not a mechanic/gear-head/motor aficionado, but there is currently a test going on with a Prevost coach by the owner of said coach that is a very mechanical inclined intelligent person.
There is a process called 'fuel polishing' that will help our huge heavy coaches increase mileage (probably for an older engine). This fella is in the process now of testing the product but will do it over 1,000's of miles.
There is no way our type coaches will ever increase fuel mileage 25% or even 10%. It's called physics. This fuel polishing procedure may help, at best, about .5 a mile per gallon, maybe, we'll see after the test is complete.
And to increase mileage of these small percentages is a combination of things (like the OP said), not just one magic procedure.
And I'm a total believer that if major accomplishments can be made, the manufacturers would be ALL over it. I would not want this huge improvement if it is going to push additional pollution into the atmosphere.
