If you're referring to the fins in the frig section and not actually defrosting the freezer....I just turn the temp up a notch or two (less cold) and in a few hours the fins are free of ice, while the freezer is still cold enough. You just have to find the right temp for the frig that still keeps the freezer cold enough. That can change with weather and how often you open the frig/freezer doors.
