Refrigerator gas valve

I have a older rig, and of course an older refrigerator , when you want to put the refrigerator on gas you open the refrigerator door near the bottom you would turn the knob to gas and then push and hold the button until it ignites.
However it no longer ignites it and I've been told that the part is no longer available through RV supply houses ( because it has a open flame on the back)
So does anybody know what this actual part is called, or part number) so that I might be able to find it on eBay or as a used part somewhere
As of now I can only run it as electric when your plug-in but traveling in the refrigerator warms up and of course the best remedy would be to buy a brand-new refrigerator
But if I can get this one fixed for another year or two that would be great .
Thank you for any insight and help you might be able to offer

  • I tried and there was no gas getting to the igniter
Somebody pointed out if I turn the dial it would open the gas line but it did not
  • If it is the Dometic model I have in mind, it can be turned over to gas or electric and started from the exterior service area on the outside. Look behind that louvered door.
  • Ok, here is the info. So I forgot it.
    My older fridge is a:
    Dometic designer series 2804

I have cleaned the area, it is getting spark, but no gas
Does anyone know what valve number it is,
the knob I turn to turn on in the fridge is what broke. Now it will not light.

There are many reasons why the gas might fail to ignite and many times, it just takes some cleaning of it's internal parts.
  • They may not have the older part available. BUT, it is NOT because the refer has an "open flame" in the back. They ALL do. It may be because that refer is so old the part has been discontinued. There were 2 types if Ignition back then. A PUSH/Click Piezo that you had to push the Ignitor each time to get a spark. And the 12 volt Piezo Ignitor that auto clicked the spark. Regardless, if the exact part is not available, you may be able to modify a current Ignitor to work. Doug

LAST, It is NEVER a good idea to take Tech advice from a PARTS person. They have no clue how RV appliances operate. Doug

I believe the part is called an igniter. Knowing what year and model/mfg would help in determining a part #.

I would install something like this to ignite the flame as you hold in your existing control.
  • It would help forum members assist you, if you gave the manufacturer and model number of the refrigerator.
