Remove Onan, How to - 1986 Falcon 190

Hi yall!

Have not found any helpful info on removing the Onan 3.0 from my Falcon.

Need to remove to find out what problem is with leaking oil, as in dripping when running. It's even in the muffler. I'm taking extra time with this as it looks to be intuitive as how to remove it. I've some pics here:

All I can say at this point is it has a steel plate on the bottom (from underneath vehicle) and it doesn't looks to be anchored too well, but it is in there sturdy. I guess the question is 'do I take it out from the bottom or from the side? Or in lieu of that, rip out the side, remove gen and go to auto repair and have the damage fixed? (that IS a joke)

Any insight would be appreciated.

    Thanks for the info. I've now got the rv back and will post the info on how to get it out.

    we had a 1998 falcon and it slid out from the side , was not a hard job at all. undone the exhaust pipe couple bolts and I mpulled it out on to a home made box.of coarse unplug the wires.and fuel line. might google how to remove gen set on your year rv.

    Looks like just take everything loose or off that you can, exhaust, breather. Then remove all bolts, lift and slide out. May take more than one person.

    It looks to me from the pictures that it should come out through the side opening. I'm sure it went in that way. As above call and ask Phoenix.

    It is difficult to get full understanding of the mounting from the pictures and it is probably just as hard to get it from being there and looking! Since we know it is highly unlikely that it was mounted from the inside of the van during construction, I would assume that it was unitized on that bottom plate and then attached. It looks to me from the pics like there is minimal distance inside the mounting box and it would be a booger to get out through the opening.

    What would happen if you put a floor jack under the plate and then attempted to unmount the plate from the frame? I can't imagine that it is mounted to the plywood box shown to enclose it from the inside.

    Also, I would rig up a small mirror on something and poke around inside there and see if I could see anything else that supported it. Like you, that looks pretty minimal on the attachment to the frame of the plate.

    There aren't a lot of Horizons and Falcons out there and the odds of you finding someone that has removed the generator may not be too high.

    I own a Phoenix Cruiser and once owned a Horizon, the little sister to the Falcon. They were built by Intervec. When Intervec went out of business, some of the employees formed Phoenix Cruiser. A guy named Kermit is president and it is a small family owned company. You might very well call Phoenix Cruiser, ask for Earl or Kermit and see if they could answer the question. Kermit is good to respond and very, very knowledgeable.
