Rental as long term strategy?

smkettner, The Navy has been good to us on seeing the world (lived up to the slogan) and I owe the family a couple big trips to liberty ports I have enjoyed like Italy. We also enjoy going to NYC for a few days to catch a Broadway show and enjoy the atmosphere. Neither of those are normal vacations but for either I would probably be less likely to do it if I had an expensive RV sitting at home.
path1, all good points and what I intend as I get closer to retirement. We're still looking for our next home right now but it looks highly unlikely that I would have space to park an RV and storage ups the costs and reduces the convenience. Still more convenient than rental but not enough to choose to use it for a day trip to a park or beach depending on how far away storage is.
