Repair or Replace Norcold Model 1210 IM Fridge ?

Currently having some issues with our Norcold. It is a factory refurbished unit supplied by Norcold in May 2007 under a warranty covered issue. It was subject to the Norcold recall and the temp sensor was installed. Having cooling issues with it this week and may be forced to repair or replace. IF it is the cooling unit, and it needs replaced, I'm wondering if I should bite the bullet and get a new similar unit that operates off electric and propane. We have enjoyed the propane since we like to boondock. I'm not sure I would have good luck with a residential type replacement as I only have a 2000 Watt inverter and four house batteries. Looks like I would run the batteries down quick when boondocking. Anyone dealt with this question before ? Decision ? Cost ? Happy ? Thanks.,

  • I replaced my 1200's cooling unit with an Amish built cooling unit almost five years ago. I still wasn’t happy with the performance, so like Dennis, I replaced the entire fridge with a residential Samsung. I too have a 2000W inverter with four house batteries. While I confess that we don’t frequently boondock, we do occasionally. Our first trip with the Samsung was boondocking in the desert. The inverter and batteries had no problem whatsoever keeping the fridge powered. I ran the fridge all night on batteries, over 8 hours, and I still had 70% left in my batteries. My batteries were 6 months old at the time so their age may have contributed to their performance. My batteries are Interstate 6V wet cells and my inverter is a Magnum MS2000 pure sine wave. I am told that the Samsung will also operate with a modified sine wave inverter.

  • While not RVCool, I replaced my failed unit with the Amish unit from RVCooling Warehouse, Clicky. I can't say whether one is better than the other, but I can say the Amish unit from RV Cooling did the job it was supposed to do. Cooled better and stayed that way. The problem I had was with the ice maker line. To repair a leak, the fridge needs to be pulled and it's just a pressed fitting. Third time with that issue, I tossed the Norcold in the trash and installed the residential Samsung. Much more room and better cooling all the way around. I have 3000w inverter but only 4 6v battery bank. It's something I should have done long ago....Dennis
  • predawn: Know anyone who has installed this one from RV cool ? I guess they are in Arkansas, and ship. They advise some people/ most install themselves (but not me). I'm checking with them to see if any dealers have installed in South Texas.
