Replacing day/night shades

I replaced all my shades with Levolor Room Darkening Cellular Shades. I like dark, insulating and push up and down feature. They were less than day/night shades and work better for me.

I was thinking that the use of regular twine (I guess like kite string) is why ours doesn't go up and down evenly. Is it because the tension if off?

We got rid of the day/night shades and replaced them with cordless cellular blinds. They are light enough to let light in during the day but keep wandering eyes out. In the bedroom we installed blackout versions so it is nice and dark for sleeping even when there are security lights outside. It was one of the best changes.
If you are in the NE you can have custom cut blinds at Menard's while you wait. I have seen some at Home Depot and Lowe's but they did not rock my world. Any of the blinds dealers can order exactly what you need within a week or so.

We had all of ours replaced in Quartzsite the past few years including the awning, slide toppers etc. etc. Shade Pro will come right out to your campsite and replace all. We had the front window in MH done with the electric day/night shades done as well. If you don't travel to Q I believe they are located in So Cal area. PM me if you need more info. BEST upgrade we ever did :)

I replaced mine with blinds not as dark at night but I can get shade and open the window at the same time and get a breeze.

Thanks for the link! We had an RV shop restring one that broke. They did it for free because they didn't have the cord in your video and used regular nylon twine and it doesn't work the same. Having the video will allow us to redo when we buy the string.

I have restrung some of these blinds already, they're old, have stains and it's time to replace them. I've been looking at faux wood blinds at Home Depot. They appear to be easy to clean and don't make a lot of noise when simulating being bounced around going down the road. Any thoughts/comments?

My husband had restrung some of our shades a time or two, but there came a point when they were just too darn old. Now, I have a sewing machine. My only skill with a sewing machine is to sew a straight line. I went to Target, bought some heavy, blackout type curtains, measured, cut, and hemmed them. My husband installed curtain rods, and we hung the curtains. We both like them. Very easy to use.

Time I spent creating the curtains? About a half hour measuring and considering how I was going to install. Several hours looking for the type of curtains I wanted. Running back and forth to Target a fair amount of times (the first curtain I made didn't turn out all that well and I bought only a few curtains at first in case my idea didn't work). Cutting and pinning and hemming eight curtains for four windows-about four hours. Installing the rods and curtains-about one hour.

Looking back-I'm glad I made the curtains.
