It depends on the model number. We just replaced ours last week. There were two large bolts that went thru the bottom of the cabinet above it and there were also two bolts that were accessible from the bottom of the microwave once the panel was removed. Those bolts were quite long and attached the microwave to the mounting bracket.
When you replace it make sure you check how the door is hinged..some microwaves have zero clearance doors..they are hinged a couple inches in from the left...others have to be clear of the cabinet opening by an inch or two or the door will not open. Also front vent microwaves are a bit harder to come by then the top vent ones. Top vent microwaves have a couple of special needs. If the top of your cabinet opening is more than 13 inches deep you will have to have a 1.75 to two inch spacer behind the new unit so the vent clears the bottom of the cabinet and the door can open.
