Residential fridge

Finaly installed our new Samsung RF18 and sent the nevercold packing. Installed 10 new LED T-8 and T-5 bulbs which dropped our plugged in to house amps from 8 to 3. when DC compressor in fridge shuts we draw 2 amps. fit both units out and in front door with doors off and front door hinge apart. home depot has RF18 on sale now for $999.00. ice cold beer and rock hard Cherry Garcia B&J's.

I know everyone's needs and specifications are different, but that Magic Chef is only 9.9 CF. Pretty small compared to something like the Samsung which is 18 CF or the GE unit I have which is 20 CF. With the changes in design and efficiency I could install a newer cabinet depth fridge in the same space available which is 22 CF and uses less electricity.

I think that Magic Chef is of interest to those with about 24 inches of width. Since you now have 20 cu ft, you likely have a wider space. While 9.9 might seem small, the rv fridge it might replace has less cu ft (maybe 7.3 or so).
  • We installed the Samsung R18 and think it's great. When traveling, we use velcro strips for the bottom freezer and cut about a foot or so off a swim noodle. It fits between the 2 door handles and keeps the doors shut. At first it takes some pushing to get it to go between the handles, but quickly conforms.
  • What did you decide to use for door lock? I have the same Samsung and Fleetwood door lock is made by Micky and Co. Using a Velcro strap last trip and seem to work OK so Micky's handy work is coming off today.
  • Can you post some pics of the fridge installation?? What color did you decide upon? I have pretty much decided to forge ahead and replace my Dometic and will probably go with Black.

Home Depot also has a Magic Chef on sale for $298 that's fits the 24" openings. Installed ours yesterday and the now the wife is happy she can have frozen ice cream while camping.

Frozen ice cream is nice, and 95% of us don't boondock anyway. Fridges will run on big inverters while driving, or one can freeze a huge block of ice or multiple ice packs while camping so when they drive things will stay cold.

I have residential fridges in all of my coaches.

  • I saw that Samsung at Home Depot yesterday for 9 hundred and 90 something. Thought about the forum when I saw it.
