Retired Rental Class B or B+

I wondering if there are any companies that rent class B or class B+ RV's. If so, I'm wondering if, how, and when they sell them after they get up in miles and/or age. I'm thinking of something like Cruise America, El Monte, and Camping World in the class C realm.

  • Thanks for all of your input. To clear up some confusion, I was looking for a rental agency that handles and sells retired class B's, similar to Cruise America and El Monte. I guess if they exist, they are small or new.

Fastpaddler, almost every retired class C I've seen on the internet have generators. Some charge if you use the generator, but it's there. You're right about awnings, though I'm seeing a lot of C's with awnings. Interior trim may not be as fancy, but they appear to be very nice.

From what I've seen on the retired rental threads, they all come with maintenance records, though it appears Cruise America may be slow in delivering them.

I've seen nothing about buying retired rentals from Camping World, but I know they sell them. Our local dealer has three 2012s for $40k, but I think they have around 70k miles; that's a lot for a two year old camper, about 35k per year.

Cruise America has a bunch of 2008 campers with mileage of 120k to 150k or so, which works out to 20k to 25k per year. And, from what I've read, CA is very good about maintaining their rentals. El Monte units have newer as well as older units with mileage of 6k to approaching 100k, and pricing seems reasonable for age/mileage.

I guess what it comes down to is that a buyer should pick carefully, and probably obtain an extended warranty. All of this is food for thought.

If you are contemplating buying an ex-rental there are things to consider: In Canada and probably US, rental RVs are BASIC units and most do not have generators OR awnings and usually interiors are basic. These are special order to rental companies. They are usually higher mileage than normal but are supposed to be serviced regularly and anything needful is done-I say "supposed to..". I considered a used RV ex-rental but did a better deal on mine through a reputable RV dealer who made sure it was serviced, had new brakes and supplied full service records. Private sales are a different story.

    Hope this info helpful.

  • The Roadtrek website has a link for renting Roadtrek Class Bs. They are rented through dealers. My guess is that once the van is taken out of rental it is sold by the dealer as pre-owned on their lot. There is a new company in California that is privately renting Roadtreks, but they just started this past year and likely have nothing to sell.

If you are looking for pre-owned Class B's there are many out there. Roadtrek International's website has a classified section open free to all.
  • How many of those RVs parked at NASCAR races with all the people in lawn chairs on the roof would you really want to buy?

  • I'm confused with your posting. Are you looking where to buy a used rental Class C or are you looking for a rental company that sells used rental class B's?
  • Sorry I cant help but I will say that I did rent a class C in Vegas years ago and drove it to Dumont Dunes. It was flat pedaled all the way and I didn't care one bit. Not being a smart you know what, just saying.
