Revolution 42T with Bunks

I'll chime in here. I spent a ton of time looking and was going back and forth between used and new.

I just ordered a 2014 with factory rear bunks. The cost depends on what options, but its $5-7K plus the $1144 special order change fee that you pay once for any non standard interior change. I have some other interior changes made at the same time. They typically add an addition "cozy" heat exchanger, so temp should not be an issue. There is also an AC duct in the ceiling.

I don't see why it could not be done after the fact. It might not turn out as nice and the extra cozy might be an issue. If you kept the stacked W/D, then the just the only the dresser would have to be removed and replaced with the narrower/taller ward. If you do like the Crabtree's, the W/D cabinet also has to get replaced as it is shallower.

If you have questions, let me know. I have been going back and forth with AC for 3 months and have pics, drawings, of all 3 versions.

I suspect that any handy carpenter would be able to retrofit bunks pretty easily into an existing 42T (American Coach offered it as an Allegiance 42T in 2009 to 2010 and then Revo in 2011 to now - I think the Allegiance might actually be a bit higher trim than the AC Revo). One thing I'd look for in an existing one would be a booth (although again, a carpenter could retrofit one)

In that one, the W/D was swapped out for a combo unit and it was pivoted to open into the bathroom but that's probably not really necessary although it might be nice if you want to use it while the kids are asleep. I do like how they have the ladder that pivots although I'm not sure how useful it would actually be (it's a bit hard to tell from the pictures; maybe there's not that much room to access the lower bunk when the ladder is in place and with the tall cabinet so maybe it does serve a purpose (looking at the pictures on the photobucket link, it looks like it might be a pretty tight fit with the ladder 'in-use'). They also replaced the half height dresser with a taller one and they added cabinets on top of the combo W/D and at the head of the top bunk.

If you get pics from AC, please post them as I'd be curious to see what they propose.

I'm leaning towards a Revo 42T and would like bunks. Anyone know if bunks can be retrofitted to an existing 42T and if so how much would that cost? Also, how much would it cost for bunks on a new 42T? There's no official info on the Revo website concerning bunks. Thanks!

Everybody has there own idea of the ideal floorplan but personally I think the Revolution 42T with rear bunks is the ideal floorplan for a family (I love the Discovery 42A but the Revolution is much better). Especially with younger kids, I'd really want to have our room between the kids and the exit door. Also one of the main complaints for bunkhouse class As is that there is very little privacy because the bunks are usually right next to the master - in this case there's the bathroom between the two. Another complaint is that in most floorplans, you have to walk by the bunks to get to the master bedroom, possibly disturbing sleeping kids.

We just purchased a Sportscoach Cross Country ds385 with bunks in the middle of the full side slide-out. DW wanted to be able to have room for the grandkids and kids. Can you spell TENT? It works well and and can be separated from the the rest of the coach. For now all is ok but I'm already planning on conversion opportunities such as dry bar, desktop, storage closet or the dog house (for me).

Wow I thought it was only us. My wife drove me crazy to get a DP with bunks. Now that the kids are older, they fight for the couch. The whole idea was being able to wake in the morning and have the salon to move around in. Now we are stepping around kids on the couch!

We have twins that are now almost 16. So one of them decides that they no longer like the bunk so now we have one sleeping on the knocked down dining room table. Never a dull moment with kids.

Good points which we have discussed through the contemplation of buying our own RV. I grew up with RV's. We had 7 as a family over the years and my wife and I have rented different layout large DP units the last 5-6 years... Our boys are 2 and 4 so we have a lot of use before we get to the teen years. One other consideration we are weighing is that the adults will bed down later and getup earlier than the kids for the foreseeable future so having the rear bunks could allow us to entertain, visit and start / end the day without having to wake the boys...

I would have to agree. We much prefer the bunks in the middle of the unit. This gives the kids their privacy, within limits, and preserves mom and dad's privacy. As one who has been camping with kids in bunks for a number of years, you may want to reconsider your options.
