Isn't a 50% discharge rate the standard? I thought that was as low as your were supposed to take them.
I don't know, I'm asking here, but I have seen the 50% battery level mentioned here often enough to wonder if it's really "silly".
It's a toss-up, do you want to take all of power possible from your batteries or do you want to preserve the number of life cycles. 50% is the as far as I will take my four 6 volt deep cycle batteries down in my RT190P. I am not sure, but I believe the following data is from US Battery Co. or Crown Battery Co. and is for normal lead acid batteries.
Expected Cycle Life vs DOD (Depth of Discharge)
10% DOD 7,000 cycles
20% DOD 3,300 cycles
30% DOD 2,050 cycles
40% DOD 1,475 cycles
50% DOD 1,150 cycles
60% DOD 950 cycles
70% DOD 780 cycles
80% DOD 675 cycles
90% DOD 590 cycles
