There seems to be a lot of vague descriptions about the E-Trek that should be cleared up. After reading the cited article and all the comments I've been reading about how long batteries last I am beginning to think I understand. Without a generator the diesel engine must become the generator. So if you want air conditioning you would have to run the diesel engine? Does the EFoy fuel cell do it? If so, aren't you just substituting a more expensive system and hard to get fuel for easy to obtain propane?
I don't know what bio-diesel means. I've heard nothing from Mercedes Benz in this regard and I always thought MB's warranty limited the amount of acceptable bio-diesel fuel. Also, I am not clear about over idling the diesel engine for long periods of time. That too I thought was a MB no-no.
As for the rest of it, hot water heat, electric induction stove, electric heat, fridge, etc. instead of propane I can see where one could boondock given 8 batteries instead of the normal one or two and 240W of solar panels along with substituting the diesel engine for a propane generator or using an EFoy fuel cell.
There seems to really be nothing new being proposed. Just a marketing effort throwing it all together for the sake of eliminating propane. I'm not sure putting all eggs in one electrical basket is wise.
Maybe all this will come more clear. Right now it seems like a clever tease.
