In the typical class B underfloor mount, there's not much that can be done for generator noise, beyond adding the Onan resonator, and _maybe_ (depending on clearances) some added sound deadening between the top of the green box & the floor. I did find that adding neoprene washers between the mounting plates and the black bottom pan helped a little with inside noise.
In a compartment mount, there's almost always room to improve... rubber washers between generator & frame, more sound deadening around the box, eliminating excess air intake openings, and the above exhaust improvements. Quiet as a Honda EU2000? Nope, but you _can_ come darn close.
The noise isn't all Onan's fault. It'd be nice if RV makers put a little thought & effort into their generator installations, but thought is rare, and effort adds cost. It'd be nice if Honda offered a line of small inverter gens for permanent installation, or if Onan developed their own. Maybe it'll happen.... someday. Meanwhile, I'm pretty happy with my 're-engineered' Onan 2800's 57dbA at 23'.

i think what the original comment meant is why onan can't create an inverter generator(like honda/yamaha) for rv installation instead of only the current models.ther may be a reason-i just don't know it
