the high idle issue involves issues with EGR valves and dpfs with the herald of 2007 emissions controls on diesel engines.
the egr valves and the dpf's clog faster at low temperatures. idling under regular idle does not create enough heat. high idle does use up diesel fuel quicker though.
this is why so many people complain about current diesels-not the one's prior to 2007.
even with perfect habits the dpf will still fill up at some point and have to be replaced(likely) or cleaned(maybe). the price of replacing these small dpf's is 3000 dollars
