Mr. Ryan. Here in the US the cost of bringing any type of new vehicle from Europe or anywhere is mind boogling. The Promaster is not a European van it comes from a brand new plant in Mexico. Think about it. It is cheaper to build a brand new manufacturing plant than it is to import them direct. Look what Sprinters go through. They are built in Germany then disassembled , put in shipping containers then reassembled here.
I know and MB is thinking of building Sprinters in the US to get around the
crazy chicken tax, something the Unions, cling onto like a religion. Fiat has got around that by building the Ducato locally, but not using the extended chassis version or so far the Diesel. Ford's new Transit(not available in Australia) is now being built in the US, using the 3.5 Ecoboost and I believe will have the older 3.2 inline diesel. That Diesel can be used in Australia as well, as we are Euro 5 compliant, but it cannot be upgraded to Euro 6
I talked to an American who was doing work for the Great Moscow Circus, that was touring Australia. He drove an IVECO Daily for them. He was very very impressed by the vehicle. It's payload, towing , fuel economy and general characteristics, really impressed him. Saying "it is like a combination of the F250/F450"
