Roof Top Storage

I'm considering putting a roof top water proof storage box on the roof of our 2013 Winnebago Meridian motor home. The box would be less than 12" in height which will keep it below the height of the roof top air conditioner. The box will be purchased somewhere and would be plastic. My question is has anyone do this? I'm not sure what the roof is made of, if it will support the box and contents and if this is a good idea. I'm guessing the weight of the box and contents would be less than 100 lbs. Your thoughts are welcomed. Thanks!!

  • A static load of 100 pounds is not the same that would occur when the vehicle is bouncing up and down on a rough road. As long as the box is large enough to spread the weight around so that it is not concentrated at just the mounting locations, it should be OK. Obviously you will want to secure it to the frame members and make sure that all penetrations are sealed.
  • If you have walked on the roof to inspect or clean it and your weight on any place can hold without any soft spots it should be able to take the load. The biggest problem I think would be how to secure it without drilling holes in the roof etc.
