Rooftop Dish

I bought a new class A RV with a King Dome dish on the roof connected to a Wally receiver. With the Wally turned off the dish will still search at times. Is there some easy way to turn off the dish? Confused
  • rgatijnet1,
My King dome is powered thru the Wally (receiver), or so my instructions say. If I have a remote box I can not find it. Turning off the Wally does not seem to turn off the King dome. Thanks
  • My King Dome had a control box. In any case, there is only one coax going to the dome which supplies the 12 volt power and receives the input signal. All you have to do is disconnect that coax in the coach and it will shut off power to the dome.
  • Unplug the wally from the AC outlet or put a powerstrip with a power switch and turn the switch off.
  • Unplugging the Wally will work to stop the King of course, but be prepared for it to go through the entire startup sequence when you plug it back in when you want to watch TV. It might be more efficient to just stick an A/B coax switch in line with the King with one leg not connected. That will turn off the King while the Wally just sees a loss of signal that will quickly be restored when you turn the King back on.
  • It depends upon the King Dome model. Do you have a model number? If not, is there a wall mounted on-off switch or is there a digital display as a controller?
Also remember that a receiver being off does not mean it's "off" but rather in standby and will still receive software updates or try to reacquire a lost or weak signal. To turn off the receiver it would have to be unplugged.
  • Let me tag on to this discussion. I just picked up a 2008 Journey 39z with a king dome. Will these work with dish only or will it work with direct tv as well?

They will work with DirecTV and depending upon the antenna is might work with Dish. DirecTV is SD programming only and Dish you can get HD.
