Good advice above but best to start charging the batteries. Run the gen for 3-4 hours then come back in a few days and check the voltage. The delay allows the battery surface charge to drain off.
Your "3/4 charged" suggests a typical inaccurate mfg battery monitor. Use a digital voltmeter and measure the voltage on the battery terminals. Or for flooded batteries you could use a hydrometer to check the charge. Look up a table to show the charge based on voltage or SG.
