Lot of myths by guys who never actually measured what they have.
My 15,000 BTU Carrier was taking 8.6 amp while running.
My 13,500 BTU AC takes 6.7 amp.
Sure in California once they start, they don't shut down till I do it at night, so I don't have to worry about surges.
Just make sure you have heavy cords and good connectors.
Lot of my 30 amp plugs like to overheat on prongs.
