Why didn't you use the nylon straps with the cover. They are designed to go under the rig in several locations to keep the cover tight.
Yes, it is somewhat of a hassle to get the whole thing on the roof. I laid mine out in the front and pulled the cover up the center of the rig then lower it on the sides and finally the back.
