RV feels loose in front end

Hi all,
My 2006 E-450 Ford Winnebago Aspect class C with 40,000 miles feels like the front end is loose. It tracks ruts and wanders so that I am always correcting. It has been slowly getting worse over the last year. There is some uneven wear on the front tires. Think it is time for an alignment.

Can anyone recommend a good shop in Orlando or Ft. Myers, FL?

Any input on Lazy Days in Tampa?

Thanks in advance.

  • Get some knowledgeable E-450 owners' input on tire pressures, especially front. Have the shocks ever been replaced? Do that before having it aligned.

  • A bit of information regarding the E350/E450 front end caster. The Ford specification is in a range from +1.3 to +7.3. You want to be at least +5.0 or more for best results.
  • As has been posted....front end alignment, tire pressure, etc. Don't forget to check the steering dampner and the shocks as well. I replaced the dampner and all 4 shocks on my Class C with Bilsteins, had front end aligned, all tires balanced and the improvement is dramatic.

X2 get it weighed loaded for a trip including people. If your front axle is not at least 75% of the rating you have problems. I know it has been gradual but you could have been adding items over the last year and every pound added behind the rear axle takes more weight off of the front.

  • Lack of caster seems to be the number one cause for handling issues on an RV.

Progressive deterioration also sounds like it could be failing bushings. Have yours checked, just to be sure. Always check your tire pressure too.

  • I would look for a medium duty FORD dealer or a quality truck alignment shop not an RV shop.
    Just my 2 cents.
