RV Inspection

I am looking to purchase a Motorhome (gas) from a private party in Norfolk/Va Beach area.

Can anyone recommend an RV inspection service firm who would be able to perform a pre-purchase inspection, preferably one you have personally used and can recommend.

Thanks.

  • It's a second choice, but a reputable mechanic in your area could also help you some with this. Most will know the functions of enines, 12v, and have a generaly know-how of tools and what condition things are in. They won't be afraid to crawl up under it and shine flashlights in the right places.
  • Good advice regarding rvservicereviews.com. I found a place there that has good reviews in the area: West Service Center in Chesapeake, VA. I may call tomorrow...

Absolutely. Funny how the most visible part of a motorhome is the HOME part so that's what people focus on. The reality is that the chassis is what needs to be looked at very carefully. Neglect and/or issues there can render the thing worthless in a hurry.
  • Look for a good INDEPENDENT TRUCK shop with lots of bigger straight jobs like 10 wheelers.
Talk to the service manager tell him what you want done.
You will know in 5 minutes of talking whether you want t do business long term with them
One over looked item is dates on tires. You might also try looking at RVSERVICEREVIEWS.COM FOR A PLACE NEAR YOU. I agree with evryone else not to have an RV place do anything. Most will not give a guaranty that they looked at your rig and it is functional.
  • I would not recommend CW or any other RV store to do a complete mechanical inspection on a motorhome.

  • I would ask a local mechanic in that area for help. My local wrench is very good at sending me to right places for work that he can't do. If you trust CW you might want to ask them if they will do the inspection. Good Luck with your new soon to be coach.
