RV park "age restictions"

Oh, yeah, even through my coach is a 98, when asked it is never older than an 06 this year!!! Concerning my age, I always shuffle my feet and hunch my back and head on the way into an 55+ office. I've never had one check my DL for my age!!!!

Lastly, when they ask to inspect it, if I don't like the inspector, I always warn them I'm having problems with my smelly toilet and offer them my hankerchief. It usually stops them at the door!

I saw a 1949 bus conversion at a RV and Trailer show in Palm Springs, CA, a week or so ago. It originally was a passenger bus but was converted to a motorhome in 1959 (says the owner).

The bus was so cool looking and it would be an asset for any park to have come in for the night just for the attention alone!

Sadly, some motorhomes are just not taken care of and just look bad. To me, it's not an age thing, but a a 'condition' thing.

In Las Vegas at the Las Vegas Motorcoach Resort, they do have a 10 yr. rule and is an all class A resort. A couple of years ago, they let a 20 yr. old Bluebird Wanderlodge in that was in excellent shape. It just happened that the owners were traveling 'RV brochure' developers and travel from park to park designing the brochures we receive on check-in.

Anyway, condition seems to be 'clicker'.

We winter in a ten year rule resort but money is the rule now not the age. Changed when empty sites became the normal. New owners now let the dogs go where the signs say NO. Nothing is perfect. Dog owners seem to not understand signs. However we have wheels.

Seems to be a simple solution. Put all the "over 10 yr. old" units in a specific spot, preferably at the back of the park. This way they would all be together, all get to use the park, all get to pay the same price, and no one feels left out or discriminated against. :@

There is at least one park I am familiar with in the San Diego area that has a "Ten Year Old" rule and when I ask about my 20 something rig being allowed, the counter guy came out looked at it and told us, No Problem". I'm sure today with the sun burned RM3 all over they would turn us away.

Mostly it's to keep up appearances thing.

There is one park on the Oregon coast that is so snooty they have multiple size, age and class restrictions. Their prices are high enough to keep all but the richest of us out.

Same here, though I have encountred several of them, Even when this RV was less than 10 MONTHS old, I parked elsewhere.

I figure if they have so much business that they have to turn away RV's older than xx years old.. They do not need my business.

I love guests who respond to policies in this manner. Allows me to sleep guilt free when I have to enforce a rule.

This topic always stirs up a hornets nest. My rig is new now but my last one went over the ten year rule by a few years and I was asked a couple of times. Traverse Bay RV Resortcame out for a final inspection when we got there and all was fine. I believe they even complimented us. If I owned a RV park I would consider the policy for the reasons mentioned. It is simply a tool that one may need to exercise if a rig is horrible shape. If you keep your older RV in tip top shape wouldn't you want owners of other rigs to do the same?

and when was the last time it was upgraded. ive stayed in parks
with that rule, and it was marginal at best. the electric was
overloaded with all the coaches hooked to a couple of 110v feeds
supplying the whole park. only a few 50 amp services.
oh, and ask for pics if its over 10 years old.

I have never, to my knowledge, seen a "10 year rule" RV park.
I have seen "no firearms in your Rv" parks (I did not stay there). I have encountered "no more than 2 pets" RV parks (I did not stay there, either)
I have seen, and stayed in, military parks (no, not all of them are behind the fence).
IMO there is a difference between the "10 year rule" and the "We reserve the right...". It is very simple; the "10 year rule" is very specific. If I ever do encounter it, I will continue down the road. The "We reserve the right..." sign is general in nature. If they don't like the look of my rig, or me, or my pets, or anything else, they are saying they have the right to refuse to allow me to stay there. I agree with them, they certainly DO have that right, and I will happily get on down the road, as is MY RIGHT!
Their park, their rules. My rig, my money, my rules. When the rules and/or reality clash, I win. Everybody is happy.
