On my old Coachmen, the step box came loose as the brittle screws holding it place broke off one by one. I finally noticed that, jacked up the step box and replaced the screws along the top with bigger self-tapping hex cap metal screws. PITA peeling back the carpet and getting them in, but it solved the problem for me. HTH
