For years we used dish soap on our vehicles and thought it was great. Then we did a consult with a paint manufacturer before having our RV painted in Mexico. Turns out the best paints are high in lipids. What is dish soap designed to remove??? Fat!!!

We changed to cheap car wash soap and it is good stuff.
Wax is the kind of thing to research on line, with things like Consumer Reports. Until we sold ours in the last couple of years, every winter, while we were here in Mexico, I'd hand wax every inch of the RV. I'd choose a small chunk every few days, wash it, and wax it with Turtle Wax. Cheap, readily available and when I did it the next year, you could still tell the wax was present.
It also depends upon how much energy you will actually expend putting on wax. If you tend to hate the job, buy a car wash with wax in it!
We had a fully painted metal roof, so it got waxed too. By doing literally all of it, any little problems could be seen and taken care of.
So, yes, use car wash, not dish soap, and do your homework on the wax. All just my opinions.
