As a long time reviewer and reader of this website. I am thoroughly disgusted with what has happened to a very useful website in the past. Lately several of my honest reviews have not been posted on the site. Has anyone else experienced these problems?
I had that issue 3 years ago and I quit using that site. They decided not to publish my report claiming that mentioning the rude staff was not appropriate. I had commented on the condition of the campsites, the bathrooms, power , water pressure etc. as I had always done, which for this CG, was positive. However, the staff was absolutely terrible, alienating us and all the others that came to the office. To me, how you are treated is an important part of the experience. It's not just about the physical facilities.
Since they decided not to publish my review, which is essentially censoring , I decided I could not trust the reviews that they do eventually publish...perhaps that CG was a sponsor of their site , hence their reasoning in censoring input. I now use Trip Advisor to scout out campgrounds
There are different ways to say the same thing. I see many reviews where the reviewer mentions they were treated rudely. Where they say the staff is inefficient or unhelpful. That is obviously allowed within a review. What they don't allow are statements that are derogatory, personal in nature or outright defamation. You can't say "the fat pig slob who checked me in" or "I think the manager is a drunk pedophile". You can't make statements that obviously aren't factual, such as "the clerk would have stolen my credit card information had I given them the chance."
Way too many people have taken to using review sites as their personal tool to destroy businesses and individuals they do not like. Due to this, the law regarding Liable and Slander is evolving. Review sites are finding they do have to take certain precautions to protect both themselves and the reviewers. Plus, most people want honest reviews of the goods and services they are considering, not a bunch of smack-talk about a product because it is being sold by their ex-husband, not because there is actually anything wrong with the product.
