RV/Trailor Window Rebuild info.

Hello!!! I have a 1988 Cobra "American" 27ft and bought it last summer from the original owner. I would like to take out each window and "Rebuild" them. I cant find any video's or articles on this. All I can find is replacing a window on the vehicle itself regarding sealing etc. On my windows the rubber seals between the window frame and glass are all shrinking due to losing elasticity and so they are very leaky if I don't keep the RV covered. I would like to take out the old rubber, the glass, down to the frame itself and repaint the frame, put the glass back in, put in new rubber seal, then put the window back on the RV. Has anyone ever done this themselves? Does anyone know where to get the rubber seal for the windows? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • I read one person say they heated the rubber and pulled it back out to the original position, and it stayed there and was working. Just something to try.

If that doesn't work and if you can't find a new rubber seal (obsolete?), butyl tape might be the next best alternative. Silicone can be very finicky as it needs impeccably clean surfaces to bond properly.
