I looked at the photos, and I actually read the numerous articles too. It is clear to me that the motorhome driver should and did see the police car on his approach. The rig he's driving sits up much higher than other traffic so his line of sight would have been better, and the police car was positioned in the second lane which would have made it visible further out than if it had been in the first lane or shoulder. The articles said that the 71 year old driver tried to drive between the TDOT truck and the police car when he couldn't merge left, suggesting that he may have been confused and thought he could drive between the two. In any case, the MH driver certainly had the responsibility to have his vehicle under control and should have been able to stop if he couldn't merge to the left. You just don't try to drive between two energency vehicles. I agree with past posters in that regard. To suggest that because of the supposed limited visibility, which I do not see, and the sudden appearance of a stopped vehicle in the road, police car or not, and his unability to merge left, that these were the reasons for this crash is just plain bollocks. The people who say otherwise are exactly why these tragedies happen.
