safe layovers YoungstownOH to Toledo OH

Hello folks,
I'm planning another trip this year from Milmay NJ to Gaylord MI in July. I'll be taking I-80 across PA to rt90 up into MI. My question is that we will need to do an overnight on the way. We always stay at Walmart super centers so we can go shopping in the am to load up our supplies for our destination. I have a few choices and was wondering if anyone could comment on the relative safety of my choices. Here they are:
Youngstown OH, Strongsville OH, Perrysburg OH, Toledo OH.
Is there any I should "avoid"?
Thanks
Vic
  • Any of the service Plaza's along the Ohio Turnpike are safe and RV friendly . I drove truck for 7 years and always felt safe.
  • A couple of the rest areas, particularly after you pass the two Sandusky exits (RT 4) have electrical hook ups for a small fee if you like, as well as a dump station. Otherwise, they have huge parking areas.
  • Some of the Ohio Turnpike service areas offer overnight RV parking with an electric hookup and a dump station/water fill station for $20 per night. Going westbound, it looks like the ones with those facilities that you'd encounter between Youngstown and Toledo are Portage (mile 197), Middle Ridge (mile 139.5), and Blue Heron (mile 76.9).
  • See, this is why I love this site. Never even thought of rest areas. although I don't need hookups, this sounds perfect for what we need. We can stop later and fill up our supplies when we get closer to Gaylord. TomN thanks for the link
    awesome. Thanks

  • Used a rest stop hook up site last Sep on my way to In it was great but they are a little short. I only had my truck but if had the camper also I probably would have had to unhook. Great idea and wish more states offered something like this.

If you do not need hookups you can park outside the RV hookup area for free. Ohio turnpike is now almost all 6 lanes and tolls are reasonable.
