$1300 is not out of line but it is still a lot of money. I had one that needed two cans in the spring and one to top off about August. Not ideal but doing that for 10 years still was less than $1300.
I'd do the same thing. I've recharged several cars this way. Had a Miata that I had to do it about once a year but for less than $20 it would last a year or so.
On my Workhorse chassis it cost me about $1,100 to have the pump and condenser changed out about 5 years ago so $1,300 doesn't sound too bad to me.
