SERVICE FAILURE AT "McBride's RV" (Chino, CA)

I wanted to let everyone know the results of my Radiator Coolant change out and filter head/filter replacement on my coach. I did a lot of research and went to McBride's RV Service and Body Shop in Chino, California. Met "Chris" who seemed to care and spent a great deal of time with me going over the initial service requests of coolant change out and filter head/filter replacement, but also many other items as my RV would be gone over by one mechanic, (including tire pressure to 100psi, transmission fluid check, top off fluids, lube chassis, check roof, check batteries condition, and document everything in a user friendly handout.

Cut to the chase, the coolant was changed as was the filter head and filter apparently. They advised that the filter head was a bear to get not to leak. As to all the other items, they were not mentioned or logged or even considered. To make matters worse, when I mentioned to the manager, he didn't know that the appropriate thing would have been to offer me a ride back home until everything was completed as promised or offer to discount the less than satisfactory job. I should also mention that the website for the business was apparently outdated as that was the excuse they used when I pointed out that the quote for the bill was not what was listed on the website. So their website gets updated adding hundreds of dollars for services and my bill remains now higher than some other shops local to the area. As a matter of fact, if I hadn't asked about the transmission fluid at pickup, I would have left with the fluids 3 quarts low. And the courtesy wash of the RV before pickup that was mentioned didn't happen either. I think they saw me as money and the customer service was not even thought of as I was lead to believe when I first arrived and spent 45 minutes plus going over my service requests. Not many current reviews out there on them, but here is a current review. I would stay away from here as you cannot trust them to do the job or do the right thing for that matter! Sorry for the long rant, but I feel better giving the heads up to others that may live in the area to save them from a similar encounter.

Your post doesn't make sense. California REQUIRES a written quote be provided to the customer prior to service. Your statement says the quote didn't match the price on the internet. So...I'm assuming that you got a quote prior to the work which you authorized and then complained about it. If you thought you could get it done cheaper, as you stated, why didn't you leave and go elsewhere.

Why would they be required to give you a ride home? Sounds a little like you authorized the work and then had second thoughts about how expensive it was.

Why would anyone look at a written quote when they can go to the internet (everyone knows if it is on the internet it is gospel), and then complain about how they were scr***d.

With as clear as I tried to be, apparently I have not been. So with that in mind, for very specific reasons I will not return to this business and would never recommend to anyone that might listen to me. I have received good information on this website and wanted to share the same, for what it's worth.

From reading your post I don't think you are being unreasonable at all.

In the future, take your coach to Redlands Performance and RV in Redlands, CA. They are absolutely the best. Do not go to Colton Truck down the street in Colton, CA.... they are hit and miss.... mostly miss (my experience).

Redlands Performance and RV have come through 110% for me. I have to drive 75-80 miles from Palm Springs, CA, to get to them and it's worth it.

    Safe travels,
    MM.
  • I also recommend Redlands Truck and RV, we used McBrides back in 2009 when we purchased our first MH (little closer to home), but was not pleased with the service. We have been using Redlands Truck and RV ever since then. We are on our second MH and have been very pleased with the service from Redlands over the past 5 years and highly recommend them.
  • "robertbenita".....Sometimes it's hard to express yourself when typing in these forums. I wasn't trying to be argumentative, just it wasn't cleared what transpired. We all want to know when a dealer doesn't perform well, but it's only fair that we get an exact account of what transpired before others judge this dealer to be good or bad. Your explanation of what occurred doesn't make sense.

I also know that I'm a little skeptical of someone who has only made 32 posts in almost 6 years and comes on here and bashes a business.
  • RV Service Centers are a good choice if your roof needs resealed, your absorption fridge is acting strange, winterizing or other RV specific items but getting service for a diesel power train or chassis seems to be very suspect. The OP's coach, at least per his profile, is a 2001 American Coach Tradition with a Cummins 8.3 built on a Spartan Chassis. Even with a price point that the he was searching out a diesel shop might have been a better choice for the described service.

AAMCO commercials from the 70's drives my point a bit. My favorite has always been THIS one.
  • I'm with DSDP Don... In California, the dealer is REQUIRED to provide a WRITTEN estimate of work to be done. California is probably the most consumer oriented State in the Union. The OP says he wanted a "discount for a less than satisfactory job.", yet he also states the fluids and filter was changed..:h.

I would be REALLY concerned WHY your tranny was 3 QUARTS LOW. And why would you pay someone $100/hour to check the air pressure in your tires. Les Schwabb will do it for free..:h.

I don't have a dog in this fight, and McBride's has only a "Very Good" rating with the last post in 2012, but I, for one would be interested in the "other side of the story".......Dennis

    X2

Something is definitely missing in the story, as Dennis is correct about CA being the most consumer oriented State in the Union. File a complaint with them and get your money back.
