I went another way. Whenever I throw away something with a power cord, I cut off the cord and save it in my tub of many cords.
I had the same issue with my toaster, cord too short. I removed the original cord and replaced it with a heavier duty cord I had saved from another appliance. I know this is not for everyone, but sure solved the issue.
