You can get 1' (or even shorter) cords at most Supermarkets now days. These will work
THe problem is Some of these devices can easily overload a common 18Ga ZIp Cord type extension cord.. And with the voltage drop at high current in such a cord they can not work properly.
But with the short cords, which are usually heaver, or a 12 ga cord (Much Much heavier) they work fine.
The other reason for "NO Extension Cords" is the plug/socket can fall INTO the sink (not so with the short cords) and land in water with predictable bad side effects when you go to pull it out.. Your last mistake.
Again the short cords.. Prevent that.
99.9% of the plugs around the sink where ur cord fell in is gfi protected so no it wont be your last day LOL
