My advice is based on your statement that you'll be seeing the country for "only a year."
If that is really the case I would not worry about the age and go with either one of them. Your call.
Think of it this way when you look at them. Do they look like they'll go another 12,000 miles without a total breakdown. Guessing both would do that easy.
Now if you're really only going for a year then you need to also ask yourself when you go to sell it 12 months later which will sell easier, and closest to it's buying price. I'm guessing the newer one.
If you change your mind about "only a year" then I would always buy the newest that I could afford. Things just wear out with age, and you'll lose faith in the rig to go any distance in it year after year of ownership.
