Beyond mechanical, how about electrical? If you are not getting the full amperage to the motor when you hit the switch it will not operate at its full potential. I have a very old Freedom electric awning, and my problem was just that, the voltage made it to the motor, but not the amperage. After some digging I found a bad ground and a failing relay (my issue was sluggish and randomly unresponsive.)
