Thanks for the hints and suggestions everyone. I think Dahkota may have resolved the issue. I discovered a quilt my wife put in the closet where the smell was coming from and it smelled moldy. I removed it and the smell seemed to dissipate the day after and I hope the smell in the closet goes away, or else I am going to need to act on the other member's suggestions that are a bit more involving.
